English-speaking life coach in Paris: how the work is done
In short
Anne Surcouf is a life coach who works in English at 20 rue des Écoles, in the 5th arrondissement of Paris — the Latin Quarter — and by video call. The work is practical and starts with the body: sleep, food, energy, tension. A first session costs €75 and lasts one to one and a half hours.
What does an English-speaking life coach in Paris actually do?
She works on what is happening in your life now. Anne Surcouf starts with physical signals — sleep, food, weight, skin, energy, tension — then looks at the mental blocks that keep them running, then at the emotions underneath. You leave with around ten concrete things to try, not with a theory.
People arrive with several problems at once. You pick one together: the one holding up the rest. Five subjects in one session give five beginnings and no follow-through. No diagnosis is made and no condition is treated — that limit is the frame of the job, not a footnote.
Why does Anne Surcouf coach in English?
She holds an English degree from the Sorbonne and spent a year in London as a translator. She has already worked in English with American clients in Paris. Sessions run in English from end to end: the background questionnaire sent before the appointment, the session itself, and the contact that follows it.
Her background is not academic. Ten years in the press, then thirty years in Paris restaurants, then coaching since 2025. Thirty years spent feeding people and watching them at close range — useful preparation for noticing what someone does with their shoulders when they talk about their job.
Why does the work start with the body?
Because the body reports first. The method runs in one order: body, then mind, then emotions. Sleep, food, weight, skin, energy and tension are looked at as ground to work on, never as conditions to name. The mental blocks come next, the emotional work last, once the ground is steadier.
There is a cultural gap worth naming here. For many English-speaking clients, the body is a tool: something you maintain so it performs. The French reflex sits closer to the opposite — the body is where you start, even when you have stopped listening to it. That gap is often the first useful conversation of the session.
A composite example, assembled from several coaching relationships and matching no real person: someone four years into a Paris posting, eating lunch at a desk, who had not noticed she no longer tasted anything. The first suggestions were unspectacular — walk part of the way home, sit down to eat, take your shoes off at the door. Her reaction is the usual one: nobody had ever told her that this counted.
Do you need a life coach or a mental health professional?
A life coach is not a health professional. Anne Surcouf is not a therapist, makes no diagnosis, treats nothing and prescribes nothing. When psychological suffering is at the front — grief that will not lift, anxiety that stops you functioning — a doctor or a psychologist is the right person. Coaching is added to that, never put in its place.
Two things are worth knowing in France. The title psychologue is protected by law; coach de vie is not, so anyone may use it — better to hear that from a coach than to discover it after three sessions. And crossing into diagnosis or treatment would be illegal practice of medicine under article L4161-1 of the public health code. If a doctor, a psychiatrist or a psychologist is already following you, say so at the start: nothing is stopped and nothing is contradicted, the work stays on daily life.
How does a session work, and what does it cost?
A first session costs €75 and lasts one to one and a half hours: a full review of your situation and the first concrete leads. A follow-up session costs €90 for two hours and includes contact between sessions. There is no subscription and no commitment — you decide after each session whether you want another.
You send your history and background before the appointment. Anne prepares, and looks for the link between the signals, so the time is spent working rather than filling in a form. Prices are public and set out on the pricing page. Coaching is not covered by the French Sécurité sociale; some mutuelles reimburse part of this kind of support, so check your contract before you budget for it. There are 31 Google reviews, all five stars.
Where is the practice, and can sessions happen online?
The practice is at 20 rue des Écoles, 75005 Paris, in the Latin Quarter, between the Sorbonne, the Panthéon and Jussieu. The nearest métro stations are Cluny – La Sorbonne, Maubert – Mutualité and Cardinal Lemoine. Sessions can also be held by video call, which is useful if you travel or if you move away from Paris.
Opening hours are 11am to 9pm Monday to Friday, and 11am to 7pm on Saturday, with no Sunday opening. Anne Surcouf has practised as a life coach in Paris since 2025, with a dog who greets people before she does.
